Profile 22 Secures BRE A+ rating for its Low-Carbon Recycled Window System

Profile 22 has become the first and only PVC-U window systems company to secure a dedicated A+ rating across all domestic applications for its low carbon recycled window system RECO22.

The system features profile extruded from 100 per cent recycled PVC-U and a thin foiled colour or wood grain finish, added to ensure colour uniformity and to deliver an enhanced aesthetic.

Although PVC-U as a building material has secured an A+ Green Guide rating from the Building Research Establishment (BRE) in a commercial application, this is the first time a PVC-U window system has secured a dedicated A+ rating extending across all domestic applications. It is also the first and only window system to date to secure an A+ Listing in the Green Book Live.

It’s manufacture from 100 per cent recycled material also means that the award winning system  cuts the carbon footprint of extruded profile to just six per cent* of that manufactured using virgin material.

Pitched by the Epwin Group systems house as offering house builders, social housing providers and specifiers access to a new generation of low carbon PVC-U windows combined with its unique rating, the system has been specifically developed for the commercial sector.

David Wrigley, managing director, Epwin Group Extrusions Division said: “We have a great product and a great proposition for the commercial sector. We’re offering it a window that in using recycled profile dramatically cuts the CO2 used in production and by combining recycled content with advanced thermal performance will help cut CO2 during its service life.

“It supports the sector in hitting targets in the Green Guide, the Code for Sustainable Homes and for cutting the carbon footprint of existing social housing.”

Produced as a concept in 2004, Profile 22 has drawn on the expertise of Epwin Group sister company and leading UK recycling operation Dekura, to make a significant contribution innovation in PVC-U building technology.

This includes, as highlighted, PVC-U’s material ‘A’ and ‘A+’ Green Guide rating but also wider recognition in the National Recycling Awards, where the Group scooped the Best Recycled Product Award 2009 for its showcase Manchester installation for social housing provider Northwards Housing.

Wrigley concluded: “As an industry we have a unique product offer, with the recycling infrastructure behind it, to support the commercial sector in delivering new and more sustainable homes but also perhaps more importantly to improve the energy efficiency of older properties through refurbishment.

“This is a product that reduces carbon input in manufacture and delivers significant and ongoing CO2 savings inline with the carbon reduction agenda.”
