PatioMaster has been awarded the security standard Secured by Design (SBD) for its new enhanced security inline sliding door range.
Following rigorous testing, the door adapted from PatioMaster’s high performance standard range, was awarded the accreditation at the beginning of this month [April].
Enhanced security features build on the inherent strength in the PatioMaster inline sliding door. This includes the addition of two patio interlock bolts which lock the sliding panel to the fixed frame and which mean that would-be burglars cannot force the door apart.
The SBD door also features a full width security head rail, which runs across the full width of the top opening panel and a full height security keep rail, designed to strengthen the sliding sash at the corners.
The SBD specification also comes with enhanced performance hardware including the Euro Profile anti-bump cylinder AND a PAS24 handle, fully tested to withstand three minutes of manual attack.
Rob McGlennon, sales director, PatioMaster said: “Our standard specification has always performed strongly, has been rigorously tested and delivers a high standard of security.
“What we have done is to build on those very firm foundations to address and meet the specific criteria set out by Secured by Design because we believe that the accreditation, already widely recognized in the commercial sector and increasingly in the retail market, gives our customers additional commercial advantage.”
Employing multiple locking points, combined with a built-in ‘anti-jacking’ system, reinforced profile and high performance hardware, the standard inline sliding door offer from PatioMaster meets rigorous security standards and comes complete with a 10 year product guarantee against wear and tear rather than just break-in.
Standard and SBD specifications also include a multi-chamber 60mm sash and a slim stepped 86mm outer frame designed to reduce plaster cutback, plus low threshold options. Again, both systems are also available in 19 different colour and woodgrain foiled finish options.
Owned by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Secured by Design aims to improve home security through the performance and design of buildings and building products.
Richard Childs, managing director, SBD said: “Secured by Design gives end users an assurance that the product that they are purchasing performs to the highest security standard. That gives them peace of mind and those companies who make the investment in SBD a strong sales platform.
“Inline sliding doors haven’t always historically enjoyed the best of reputations from a security perspective but the industry has responded and delivered a new generation of enhanced performance products.
“It’s a prime example of how by working with responsible manufacturers we are together able to make homes safer and more secure.”
According to the latest figures published by the British Crime Survey there were 710,000 house break-ins in the year to September 2010. Up nine per cent on the previous year, this equates to more than one break in every minute.
