A new through horn for the Spectus Vertical Slider has been launched by Spectus Window Systems in response to requests from its fabricators and installers. The through horn, which helps installers to maintain traditional aesthetics in period properties, is the latest addition to the Spectus product range and is available immediately.
As a natural choice for Georgian and Victorian buildings, Spectus’ Vertical Slider already offers distinct advantages to rival timber sash frames when it comes to energy ratings and thermal efficiency. In fact, PVC-U thermal inserts, made from 100% recycled PVC-U, are available to help achieve the highest possible levels of Window Energy Ratings. Now the easy-to-install Spectus Vertical Slider, which is even accepted in certain heritage sites, rivals timber on aesthetics more than ever before.
The through horn is available in a wide range of coloured foils to give a solid-colour or wood-effect finish. And now, with the optional choice of moulded clip on horn or through horn detail, fabricators can cater for many different specifications. Chris Powell from Spectus explains: “Vertical Sliders with through horns are a natural choice for a period home because they replicate the traditional architecture and design of Georgian and Victorian properties. During these periods the through horn design was functional, but also added to the aesthetics of the popular sash windows.
“With the advent of PVC-U Vertical Sliders which challenge timber frames in many ways – from cost and performance to functionality and sustainability credentials – our task is to ensure they also keep performing aesthetically. Our customers told us that we could improve our offering even further by adding a through horn to the range, and we’ve delivered.”
Spectus through horns will be available from stock in a range of foils including white on white, cream on cream, rosewood on white, rosewood on brown, light oak on white and light oak on tan, meaning quicker delivery times.
Spectus’ sought after Vertical Slider, kitemarked to B S EN 12608 and B S 7950, also comes with an optional deep bottom rail to emulate the aesthetics of many traditional timber Vertical Sliders. With a wide choice of hardware available, two cill sizes to suit different building details, and two sizes of Georgian bar, the Vertical Sliders are the optimum frame dimensions for traditional box sash window replacements – and are available directly from Spectus in over 50 non-standard colours on request too.
The Vertical Slider through horn matches the Spectus Elite casement window through horn, giving a consistent look across the product range. Also the consistency in dimensions of the through horn and the moulded horn allows the use of one extended horn pivot bar and carrier across both horn types to help fabricators. Sold in kits containing prepared VS03 jamb stile, mouldings and mechanical jointing components, fabricators will be required to supply the outstanding components and also mechanically joint the top sash bottom rail.
