Roofline and rainwater manufacture Swish Building Products has launched its new fleet of eco-lorries as part of the company’s commitment to minimise its environmental impact.
The new 15-strong fleet use the low emission Euro 5 engine, and was commissioned this month as part of Swish’s programme of continual improvement under ISO14001.
Greg Wilde, Swish Building Products, said: “We achieved an 8.5 per cent cut in fuel consumption of our fleet per tonne of product last year despite increasing sales volumes, this in part achieved through driver training and more efficient route planning.
“But while the fleet is serviced every six weeks to maintain performance, clocking up more than a million miles a year means that even with regular maintenance, there is an inevitable decrease in that performance.
“This, although in itself perhaps very small, can exert a sizeable impact on overall fleet efficiency when the fleet is collectively covering so many miles.
“On this basis we have decided to make a significant investment in new vehicles and we expect to be able to announce a significant further reduction in our carbon footprint as the new fleet comes into operation.”
The new trailers also see a new livery including Kayflow drainage systems, as sister brand to Swish.
